San Antonio FC (1-2-1, 5pts) suffered their first defeat of the young 2016 season, 1-0, to the Orange County Blues (1-1-2, 4pts) on Saturday night. It was the second straight road match and the club only picked up a single point out of six possible while in the Golden State.
The match started out brightly with end-to-end action for both squads. Each side had multiple chances to go ahead; Rafa Castillo had two shots denied by the goal post. It was, however, a foul by Milton Palacios inside the box that lead to the only goal of the night - a Didier Crettenand penalty kick that sent Josh Ford the wrong way. For the second straight match, SAFC headed to the locker room down a goal.
San Antonio came out strong and aggressive in the second, attempting multiple shots on goal that just weren't enough to get by OC's GK, Brandon Miller. The play of the match came in the 80' when former San Antonio Scorpion man, Trevin Caesar sped past McCarthy and had Josh Ford 1v1. Ford came off his line and denied Caesar the chance to double the lead for the home team.
SAFC returns to Texas this week for training and will fly out on Friday to Colorado to play the Colorado Switchbacks FC next Saturday. It's the final road match of this three game stretch before returning to Toyota Field to play the Tulsa Roughnecks on April 30.
