All-time regular season series: First match
San Antonio FC (1-2-2, 5pts) are finally back in the Lone Star State for another match at Toyota Field, this time against Tulsa Roughnecks FC (1-1-3, 4pts). The squad will be glad to play again in the confines of their home turf after three consecutive away matches that only yielded one point out of nine possible. SAFC will be looking to get back in the win column in their second home game after dropping a 1-0 decision in Colorado Springs. A few great opportunities by Carlos Alvarez weren't enough to get by Colorado's 20' sub, GK Billy Thompson. It's the fourth consecutive match where the defense has allowed one goal. SAFC haven't had a shutout since their inaugural match in Seattle. The improvements are visible with the team, however mental mistakes in the defense have cost the club points while on this road trip.
The Roughnecks have had a rough start to the season. They are coming off a 2-0 loss to Portland Timbers 2 at home and have lost three of their last four matches. This will be a match that both teams will be wanting to begin to turn around their young seasons.
Keys to the game:
San Antonio needs to finish the opportunities that are presented to them. If it weren't for a few inches on multiple shots that hit the goal post, SAFC could have taken more points on their three game road-trip. The defense has been pretty good, except for mental mistakes that have ultimately cost them in their last two contests. If they can shore up the defense and get J.J. back on the scoring sheet, they'll have a great shot at taking down a Tulsa group that is reeling after losing three of their last four.
Another capacity crowd, or very close to it, is expected at Toyota Field in SAFC's second home match of the season. The boys will surely feed off the excitement and energy that the crowd brings. In only their second away match of the season, I don't foresee Tulsa packing enough punch to take down the Alamo City boys on their home turf. 2-0 to the Texans.
The game is this Saturday, April 30th at 7:30pm CST. #SAvTUL
