All-time regular season series: 0-1-1, LA leads
Last match: 2-3 home loss vs LA (2016)
San Antonio FC (1-0-0, 3pts) will play their USL home opener against the 2015 Western Conference champion LA Galaxy II (1-0-0, 3pts) at Toyota Field this Saturday. It will be the third time the two squads will have faced each other. San Antonio is still looking for its first win in the series, with Los Dos earning a draw and a win versus the Alamo City boys in 2016.
San Antonio is coming off a hard fought win in the Valley against their bitter South Texas rival, RGV FC, to open their 2017 season. It was the first win for SAFC in that series and the club will look to continue that trend when they return to the confines of Toyota Field. SAFC played better at home than on the road in 2016, earning a 7-4-4 (WDL) record at Toyota Field. San Antonio opened Toyota Field in 2016 with a 1-1 draw against the Swope Park Rangers.
Los Dos are also coming off a season opening win as they defeated Vancouver Whitecaps II, 2-0 at home, in California. However, LA's leading goal-scorer, Jack McBean, has moved on to the first team in MLS for the Galaxy for 2017. His two goals, one in each match, leads all players in this match up.
San Antonio's last meeting with Los Dos started with a bang as Rafa Castillo gave SAFC the lead after just three minutes, but it didn't last long. Ultimately, SAFC fell short of extending their six match unbeaten streak they were experiencing at the time. The Alamo City boys mounted a furious comeback in the final minutes, only to ultimately lose 2-3. That game also included a season high nine-total yellow cards between the two sides.
This should be another great game in this series.
The game is Saturday, April 1st at 7:30pm CST. #SAvLA
