The San Antonio Scorpions closed out the 2015 season with another draw up in Minnesota. The 2-2 draw included two penalty kicks, one for each side, and a stoppage time goal that saved a point for the Loons.
Giuseppe Gentile opened up the scoring in the 54' when he received an assist from Billy Forbes that just passed out of reach of the United keeper and slotted it home to put the visitors up 1-0. It was Gentile's 2nd goal for the Scorpions and it was Forbes' 8th assist of the season, surpassing his tally of 7 from 2014. His 8 assists are also a team record for number of assists in a season.
The Scorpions were up 2-1 going into stoppage time, just a few minutes from ending the season with 3 points. They were undone, however, by a goal by United's Kevin Venegas off a free-kick by Kalif Alhassan. Giving up the win late in the game was just another chapter in the story of this season. Many of the draws this year were close to being wins for the Scorpions, but weren't meant to be as late goals undid San Antonio throughout the season.
The off-season looks to be an eventful one as the stadium/team are up for sale and with the poor results in 2015 needing to be rectified. The Scorpions are already in search of a new head coach as news broke today that San Antonio has parted ways with Alen Marcina. The coaching search has begun and we will wait to see if there are any other changes in San Antonio.

It didn't take long for the San Antonio Scorpions to start making changes after a poor season of results during the 2015 NASL season. The team announced today that head coach Alen Marcina will not return with the team for the 2016 season.
Coach Marcina was the Scorpions' 2nd head coach in team history. He coached the team to a 26-15-26 (W-D-L) record, including his time as interim head coach at the end of the 2013 season. His honors include winning the NASL Soccer Bowl last season along with the 2014 Fall Season Championship.
This change doesn't come as too much of a surprise to Alamo Soccer City. Poor results coupled with a general lack of discipline on the field and sideline are probable reasons as to his departure.
The team has stated that they have begun their search for the 3rd head coach in Scorpions history. There are some great coaches out there who might be possible targets:
All of these coaches would be great hires for the Scorpions. Paul Dalglish is probably the most realistic choice while Preki would be the long shot. Hopefully the club can hire a new coach soon so that preparations for 2016 can start early this year.
We will keep you posted with updates as they come.

All-time regular season series: 3-5-5
2015 head-to-head series: 0-1-1
The final game of the season is this Saturday in Blaine, Minnesota. The San Antonio Scorpions have a good shot at finishing the season at the bottom of the combined standings when it's all said and done. It's been a 180° turnaround for the club who won the 2014 Fall Championship and later the Soccer Bowl to become NASL champions. The Loons, however, will be returning to The Championship after a rocky start in the spring.
Minnesota come into this game with the highest scoring offense in the league, scoring over 50 goals, a league record. The Scorpions on the other hand have given up the most goals this season, a combination that could see the scoreboard light up Saturday night. San Antonio had a decent outing against the Cosmos last weekend in their home finale, losing out on a questionable PK & wonderfully taken free-kick. The Alamo City boys did, however, look threatening on the offensive and will try to end their season on a high note.
The series between Minnesota and San Antonio has been heated, to say the least. This "Not A Rivalry" rivalry game will be a great opportunity for the visitors to send their opponent from up north with a loss as they enter the post-season. The last time the Scorpions visited Minnesota, they came away with a 2-2 draw, highlighted by SA's Zourab Tsiskaridze's free-kick goal from 60 yards out.
The Scorpions were able to hand Minnesota a 1-0 loss in Blaine at the end of last season but have yet to get in the win column this season versus the Loons.
The game is this Saturday at 7pm CST in Blaine, Minnesota and can be viewed on ESPN3. #MNUvSAS

The San Antonio Scorpions had to postpone their match against the New York Cosmos to Sunday due to inclement weather caused by Hurricane Patricia. It turned out to be a beautiful day to play the beautiful game. The game did not end the way the home fans wanted and leaves the club facing many questions going into this offseason with 1 game left.
The Cosmos swept the season series against the Scorpions with a 2-1 win over the 2014 NASL champs. The first 20 minutes of the game were pretty uneventful, both sides learning to deal with the winds. The Scorpions however, would play the remainder of the first half on the offensive. Multiple opportunities presented themselves, but fizzled out by the Cosmos defense. The breakthrough came via Billy Forbes who was able to slot the ball home past New York keeper, Jimmy Maurer, in the 43'. It was Billy's 5th goal of the year and 10th as a Scorpion which ties him with current teammate, Omar Cummings, for 5th on the Scorpions' all-time goals scoring list.
The 2nd half belonged to the Cosmos as Marcos Senna tied the game in the 62' with a well taken penalty that had Scorpion keeper Daniel Fernandes second guess himself and was sent the wrong way. The visitors kept the pressure on and were able to take the lead via a great free-kick given just outside the 18 yard box. Ayoze slotted home the goal in the upper 90 past Fernandes. The Scorpions didn't give up though and had their best chance to tie the game in the 80' when goalscorer Billy Forbes shot off a great volley that forced Jimmy Maurer into a spectacular save.
The Scorpions are now 3-0-5 all-time against the New York Cosmos in the regular season since their reincarnation and 1-0-0 in post-season play.
San Antonio wraps up its 2015 campaign next Saturday when they face Minnesota United in Blaine. The highest the Scorpions can climb up the combined standings is a tie for 7th place with a win - they currently sit in last place.
San Antonio finishes up their 2015 home record at 4-5-6, a far cry from their 2014 home record of 8-3-3 + 2-0-0 in The Championship.
