Fueled by a pro-debut brace by Haitian international Jacques Francois, San Antonio FC (USL) defeated Corinthians FC of San Antonio (NPSL) 3-1 to advance in the U.S. Open Cup. The scoring opened up early as Jason Johnson scored in the 3' off a Francois assist in the box. The Alamo boys continued to put on pressure for most of the first half, with multiple scoring opportunities wasted.
The sides would break at half with the home team up 1-0. That lead did not last however, as Corinthians were able to equalize in the 47' when Chapman-Page rolled the ball past captain Josh Ford. The excitement in Toyota Field was almost bursting from its seams in the 70' when Jacques Francois opened up his professional account with a howler of a goal after taking the ball solo from midfield. He doubled his tally in the 74' to put the game out of reach for the visitors.
With the Des Moines Menace (PDL) defeating fellow USL side Tulsa Roughnecks 2-0, San Antonio FC will next travel to Iowa to face the Menace in the Open Cup Third Round on June 1. Should the Alamo City boys win that match, a date with either FC Dallas or the Houston Dynamo will likely be in store as MLS clubs enter the competition in the Fourth Round.

All-time regular season series: First *competitive match, however the two sides did meet in a pre-season game that SAFC won 2-1.
Form:
San Antonio FC will host its first ever U.S. Open Cup match today as it will host NPSL side, Corinthians FC of San Antonio. This match will also be the first for Corinthians as well since their First Round match against NTX Rayados (USASA) was forfeited "due to a lack of properly registered players" by the Rayados. SAFC are coming off a 1-1 draw with the Oklahoma City Energy while Corinthians are coming off their second straight loss to start their NPSL campaign. Tonight's match will be the first competitive local-derby match for both sides, and the fist San Antonio Derby in the U.S. Open Cup. While an official name for the derby has yet to be named, some possibilities have been used such as "San Antonio Derby" and "Alamo Derby". The winner will go on to face the winner between the Tulsa Roughnecks (USL) and Des Moines Menace (PDL) with San Antonio FC hosting only if Tulsa advances, otherwise SAFC will travel to Iowa. If Corinthians win, they will travel to either Tulsa or Iowa for their Third Round match. The match is today, Wednesday May 17th at 7:30pm CST. #SAvCSA |
